Quick Summary

This article focuses on the progress and current status of Midea's transformation from a traditional home appliance manufacturer into a technology group, and outlines the current competitive landscape of China's home appliance industry. Key takeaways are as follows:

1. The Chinese home appliance industry has bid farewell to its high-growth era of expanding market volume and entered a phase of cutthroat competition in a saturated market. In 2025, China's retail sales of home appliances reached 893.1 billion yuan, a 4.3% year-on-year decline, followed by another 6.2% drop in the first quarter of 2026. Even Midea, the leading brand, has seen its growth slow, while also facing competition from new cross-industry entrants such as Xiaomi.

2. Midea launched its transformation as early as 2017, and has currently laid out new businesses including robotics and new energy through mergers and acquisitions. However, these new businesses only account for 20% of its total revenue overall, and have not yet formed a second growth curve. Public opinion on its C-end full-house smart experience is mixed, with clear shortcomings in APP operation and device connectivity.

3. Midea's latest transformation roadmap is: it will invest 60 billion yuan in R&D of cutting-edge technologies such as AI and new energy over the next three years, integrate into Tencent's WeChat AI ecosystem, and also conduct AI cooperation with Alibaba, leveraging the tech giants' AI capabilities to make up for gaps in its own ecosystem.

This article analyzes the pain points and feasible paths for technology transformation of traditional home appliance brands in the era of stock competition, offering high reference value for transformation strategies of various consumer brands. Key insights are as follows:

1. Current consumer trend shifts: The home appliance industry has entered stock-based competition. Consumers increasingly favor consumption models bound to smart ecosystems; AI helps lock in user habits and increases customer switching costs. It has become very difficult to stand out relying solely on single hardware products, and ecosystem-based competition has become the new core of competition.

2. Common pain points for transformation of traditional brands: Traditional home appliance brands excel at hardware R&D and manufacturing efficiency improvement, but have inherent weaknesses in IoT ecosystem building, APP interaction design, and AI technology implementation. Blind large-scale cross-industry M&A to expand new businesses rarely delivers a second growth curve quickly, and also diverts resources away from core businesses.

3. Referenceable transformation directions: Scale back non-core business expansion, focus on core businesses to secure the fundamentals, make up for AI ecosystem gaps by partnering with major internet companies, concentrate resources on cutting-edge core technology R&D, and gradually complete corporate cultural and capability transformation.

This article analyzes the current competitive environment and transformation opportunities in the home appliance industry, providing reference for business decision-making for home appliance sellers. Key takeaways are as follows:

1. Current overall industry environment: China's home appliance market has contracted for multiple consecutive years, and stock competition is intensifying. Cross-industry players like Xiaomi, relying on smart ecosystem bundling strategies, are continuously seizing market share from traditional brands. Even leading brands like Midea have seen notable growth slowdown, meaning much greater competitive pressure for small and medium-sized sellers.

2. Shifts in consumer demand: Today's consumers prefer one-stop full-house smart experiences; a seamless experience where all appliances can be controlled from a single entry point is particularly popular. AI ecosystems can effectively improve user stickiness, boosting the probability of repeat purchases and expanded product purchases. Single hardware products can hardly retain users.

3. Opportunity and risk reminders: Sellers can leverage open AI ecosystems from major internet companies to make up for their own weaknesses in software and ecosystem capabilities, eliminating the need for massive investment to build a proprietary APP ecosystem and lowering the barrier to transformation. At the same time, sellers should stay focused on core businesses, avoid resource depletion from blind expansion, and control transformation risks.

This article presents insights on transformation trends in the current home appliance industry, offering valuable inspiration for traditional manufacturing factories. Key takeaways are as follows:

1. Shifts in product design and manufacturing demand: Consumers are no longer satisfied with the basic functions of standalone hardware, and demand for AI-powered, scenario-based full-house smart products is growing rapidly. Factories need to adapt to smart connectivity requirements in the R&D and design stage, and adjust their product strategy toward scenario-based and intelligent development.

2. Inspiration for digital and intelligent transformation: Traditional manufacturing factories inherently have advantages in low-cost, high-efficiency production, but have obvious weaknesses in AI technology, software interaction, and ecosystem operation. Building a proprietary ecosystem from scratch is costly and highly challenging. Factories can leverage the open AI ecosystems of leading internet companies to quickly close intelligent capability gaps and reduce transformation investment.

3. Business opportunities and directions: The industry is currently in a low-growth cycle, and blind cross-industry expansion carries high risk. A more prudent approach is to scale back non-core businesses, focus on the home appliance core business that the factory excels at, increase R&D investment in core technological areas, advance transformation steadily, and avoid ineffective capital expenditure.

This article sorts out the core pain points and demands of traditional home appliance enterprises for intelligent transformation, offering abundant actionable insights for service providers serving the home appliance industry. Key insights are as follows:

1. Industry development trends: AI Agents are restructuring the entry logic of smart homes, with the super entry point shifting from independent apps to AI Agents. The vast majority of traditional home appliance manufacturers have urgent demand for intelligent transformation, creating large market opportunities.

2. Core pain points of clients: Traditional home appliance enterprises' core advantages are concentrated in hardware R&D and manufacturing, and they generally lack capabilities in AI algorithm implementation, APP operation and maintenance, and IoT ecosystem building. Independent R&D is not only costly, but also rarely delivers a user experience that can match that of technology companies, creating strong demand for external capability empowerment.

3. Solutions and market opportunities: Service providers can integrate open AI capabilities from leading internet companies to provide one-stop intelligent access solutions for traditional home appliance enterprises, helping them quickly adapt to AI ecosystems, lower transformation barriers and costs, and capture industry dividends brought by AI entry point transformation. Service providers can also expand their customer base by relying on the open ecosystem.

This article reflects traditional home appliance brands' demand for AI ecosystem platforms, sorts out current AI ecosystem layout directions, and provides reference for the operation and development of platform operators. Key takeaways are as follows:

1. Brands' core demand for platforms: All traditional home appliance brands are advancing intelligent transformation, but they lack capabilities in AI ecosystem building and traffic operation. They hope to leverage large platforms' traffic and AI capabilities to quickly complete intelligent product upgrades, reach more young users, and build their own private domain traffic pools.

2. Referenceable recent practices for platforms: Open your own AI capabilities to offline traditional brands, attract leading home appliance brands to access the platform's AI ecosystem, and enrich application scenarios in the platform AI ecosystem. Meanwhile, a unified AI entry lowers the usage barrier for users, who do not need to download multiple apps to control smart hardware from different brands, effectively improving user experience.

3. Risks to avoid: As AI Agents emerge as the new entry point, the ownership of ultimate traffic distribution rights has not yet been finalized. Platforms need to speed up ecosystem layout, maintain ecosystem openness to attract more brands from different backgrounds, and avoid development constraints brought by closed ecosystems.

This article records the latest developments in the transformation of a leading traditional home appliance enterprise into a technology group, offering high research value for scholars studying industrial transformation. Key findings are as follows:

1. Current new industrial trends: China's home appliance industry has entered a phase of stock-based competition characterized by low growth and high uncertainty. Cross-industry technology companies are quickly entering the home appliance market relying on smart ecosystem strategies, continuously squeezing market share from traditional brands. AI has become the core variable for traditional home appliance enterprises to break through and transform, and the industry landscape is being reshaped.

2. New problems exposed during transformation: Due to their large scale, leading traditional home appliance enterprises face inherent slow momentum in transformation. New businesses expanded through large-scale M&A in earlier years only account for 20% of total revenue overall, and have not yet grown into a second growth curve that can support overall corporate growth. Meanwhile, traditional manufacturing enterprises have inherent weaknesses in software ecosystem and AI interaction experience, and it is difficult for them to compete with leading technology companies by building an independent ecosystem.

3. A new business model sample: The transformation path Midea is currently exploring differs from the earlier large-scale M&A expansion model. The new path scales back non-core business expansion, returns to the core home appliance business, closes capability gaps through open ecosystem cooperation with major internet companies, and concentrates capital on cutting-edge technology R&D. This provides a new research sample for technology transformation of traditional manufacturing enterprises.

简单来说,美的美享家套系和微信AI生态结合后,用户新买一台智能家电,将不需要重新下载APP或重新联网,只需要打开微信小程序就能实现配网;
